INSTALLATION GUIDE - F-111 PIG HUD for FSX - version 1.1

THE WORD DOCUMENT INSTALLATION GUIDE IS PREFERABLE TO THIS ONE.

**Installation requires that you already have the F-111 Aardvark installed on your computer .
This can be purchased from ALPHASIM at www.alphasim.co.uk at a very reasonable cost

**The following procedures will result in you having a second F-111 on your computer ,
the second F-111 will be the F-111 PIG HUD with the new situation awareness digital panel .
Therefore you have the best outcome , namely the original aircraft , plus a second one with this new panel

**The instructions provided , are in a format for the complete novice , with little or no prior
experience in aircraft installation .My apologies to those with more experience

**Ensure that "Show Hidden files and folders" has been enabled
( see basics at end of this document)

**Basic installation assistance guidelines are detailed at the end of the installation instructions

**It is assumed that you have unzipped the ZIP package into a empty folder in an area like 'My Documents'
on your computer

******Due to the variations available with the ALPHASIM F-111 , namely changed instrument panels and
countless repaints etc , each aircraft on various computers will be different .
Hence the following steps MUST be conducted in the order that they are listed in

*****INSTALLATION FOR PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED VERSIONS****
Simply delete existing Panel folder and copy and paste in the NEW Panel folder .
Then copy and paste in new Sound folder if you wish .
( only if you already have ' ALPHA F-111 PIG HUD ' installed )

********* START OF INSTALLATION ****************
*********************************************************
--- STAGE ONE ---- (FILL AIRCRAFT FOLDER)------------
In 'My Documents', or wherever you placed the new panel package
(unzipped download) , open the ' F-111 PIG HUD PACKAGE ' folder ,
you will see several folders etc .
One folder is ' ALPHA F-111 PIG HUD ', it is currently
empty , but will be your new aircraft with a separate identity of its own
after the following steps are completed .

STEP 1... In the FSX tree structure , click on "Airplanes " folder , then click on
" ALPHA F-111 Aardvark " folder ( the original ( old ) F-111 aircraft ,
that you already have on your computer ), this will open and show the
contents of that aircraft .
Copy the complete contents .

STEP 2... In 'My Documents', right click on ALPHA F-111 PIG HUD '
folder and paste the old aircraft into this folder .

must now be added to FSX .

IMPORTANT SPECIAL NOTES :
NOTE 1 : For Radar and Aircraft Carrier use , refer to the separate Readme
included with this package ,especially the Radar .
NOTE 2 : The aircraft that you have just added in the above steps has several
textures (repaints) , should you wish to add your favourites or new
repaints a guide below details the simple changes that MUST be made
to 'Aircraft Descriptions' to ensure that they show up on the Flight
simulator .

***************************************************************
***************************************************************

---ADDING EXTRA REPAINTS TO YOUR NEW F-111----
( aircraft cfg MODIFICATION)

***********************************************
IMPORTANT : ONE LINE MUST BE CHANGED
***********************************************

REASON: You wish to add to the existing variations in the F-111 PIG HUD .
In the following situations :-
(A) Previously you had one or more added repaints in your old F-111 .
The texture folders will be in the new F-111 , but will not show up until the
relevant 'aircraft description' has been added to the 'aircraft cfg' .
OR
(B) You wish to add a newly downloaded repaint

COPY : The particular 'Aircraft description that you want to add to 'The Pig' .
Its source can be either (A) the old original F-111 Aardvark 'aircraft cfg' or
(B) from the text included with a downloaded repaint .
The relevant aircraft description is highlighted by VERY CAREFULLY clicking
on the very beginning of the desired text ,and holding the mouse down and
dragging it to the very end of the portion required , then release the mouse.
Right click on highlighted text and click copy .

Then .

PASTE : Open with Notepad the F-111 PIG HUD aircraft cfg .
Aircraft cfg's are opened with Notepad , to open either double click on it OR
click on it and hold mouse down and drag the aircraft cfg onto a open blank Notepad ,
then release the mouse .

Scroll down to the end of the current aircraft descriptions .
Click below the last aircraft description , then right click and paste in the
previously copied description . It is now added BUT the 'ui_type= ... ' line
in the description MUST be changed next .

VITAL : In each and every added 'aircraft description , the following line "MUST"
be changed :-

FROM:
ui_type=F-111 Aardvark

TO:
ui_type= F-111 PIG HUD

*****
The following is provided as an EXAMPLE of 'one' aircraft description as it
appeared in the older/previous F-111:

************************************************

[fltsim.0]
title= F-111G A8-272 'Boneyard Wrangler'
sim=111
model=G
panel=
sound=
texture=bone
kb_checklists=F-111_check
kb_reference=F-111_ref
atc_id=A8272
ui_manufacturer=ALPHA
ui_type=F-111 Aardvark
ui_variation=F-111G A8-272 'Boneyard Wrangler'
description=© ALPHA Simulations 2004\n\nF-111G 'Boneyard Wrangler', 6 Sqn. RAAF\n\nThe
F-111 was an extremely advanced design using the "swing wing" or variable geometry
airfoil. Powered by fuel-efficient turbofan engines, the aircraft went through a
long and varied evolutionary process, emerging as perhaps the finest long-range
interdictor of the 1980s. It served in many roles, flying thousands of combat sorties,
and carried a vast array of weaponry, including nuclear payloads, missiles, and bombs.
It could also pack a Vulcan cannon. Total stores amounted to 31,500 pounds for any
one mission, plus fuel and crew.
atc_heavy=0
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=

********************************************************************
Apart from the important ui_type= , please note .
(A) texture=bone , bone represents the title of the texture folder .
(B) ui_manufacturer=ALPHA , this must be ALPHA , some repaints may use
another name like 'General Dynamics' , it must be changed to ALPHA .
(C) ui_variation= , this is the unique call up title of the aircraft that you select
in FS menu to fly .
(D) model= , this is the particular loadout model , there are 7 models in the
Alphasim F-111 .
(E) title= , if there is no entry or script after the = the aircraft will not show up.

*****

SEQUENCE NUMBER ( [fltsim.0] ) : Modify the sequence number within
[fltsim.0] , for any added aircraft descriptions . The 0 in these brackets is
a part of a progressive serial number
0,1,2.3,4,................

MOST IMPORTANT ----- SAVE --- : then save the modified text in the aircraft cfg .
Top left corner FILE then SAVE . you can now exit Notepad .

IMPORTANT NOTE : Be very thorough and precise with these steps , computers are
notoriously intolerant to one too many or few letters and small errors are almost
impossible to locate later on .

It is strongly recommended that an insurance backup copy be made of
the aircraft cfg and that it be stored at a separate location in My Documents
prior to conducting the above modifications .

*************************************************************
End of aircraft cfg modification
*************************************************************

--- ( DOCS STORAGE ) ---
As the F-111 PIG HUD panel/aircraft, is an extremely capable aircraft
it has :-
(A) a lengthy " FLIGHT MANUAL " and also
(B) a DOCS folder containing specific instrument guides that need to be
retained for future reference . To get the maximum out of this panel the DOCS
folder will also have to be consulted .
Cheer up , the notes are several hundred of pages shorter than what the actual
F-111 pilots have to study . Essentially they are there for you the pilot to
get the most out of this aircraft/panel configuration .
